Is it bad to change depreciation types part way through the year?

Overview

A common question is “Is it bad to change depreciation types part way through the year?

No, changing the depreciation type part way through the financial year won’t cause any issues.

Why does it not cause any issues?

In Accentis Enterprise, Command SA4471 – CHANGE Asset depreciation type to full allows you to change the depreciation type for an asset. Changing the depreciation type of an asset won’t cause any issues as, once the depreciation has been processed, each transaction stores the depreciation type at the time of the transaction (i.e. the change to the depreciation type is not retrospective).

For example, if an asset starts at Prime cost (PC) and is then changed to Diminishing value (DV) to finish the remaining depreciation, this won’t cause any issues for the reports or calculations on SA4321 – Asset listing (multi-purpose, group & detail).
